Train Your Own Assistance Dog
Do you need help around the house due to a disability? Your dog can help!

Learn how to train your dog to become an in-home assistance, service or hearing dog one behavior at a time! I'll help you to train your dog to do tasks that are useful to you in your home such as closing doors, turning on lights, pick up dropped objects, collect laundry, pulling up a blanket, alerting you to the phone, waking you up, helping you to take off your coat, shoes or socks, and more! All dogs are capable of learning helpful tasks-which tasks will depend on the size and age of your dog and your needs.

When you are ready to take the  next step, I'll help you evaluate your dog to see if s/he is suitable for helping you at work or play outside your home.

Treating Separation Anxiety

Separation Anxiety is the most common behavior problem in dogs that find themselves in a new home (shelter dogs, rescue dogs, re-homed dog, strays etc). You are not alone! Find out why your dog shows his/her anxiety using the behaviors (destruction, noise, house soiling, self-mutilation etc), how you can prevent them and what simple steps you can take to turn anxious dogs into calm pussycats when you leave or come home.
Learn the key secret to significantly reducing or eliminating separation anxiety in your dog, not matter how well entrenched it is. My approach is developed from the results of a North America-wide study of more than 30 dogs that successfully worked through separation anxiety, some in as little as a long weekend. Most worked through it in 2 weeks to a month.
Tips: Getting another dog or cat rarely works in the short or long term as the dog misses the human companionship, unless s/he was bonded to another pet. Punishing your dog only make the behaviors worse!

NEW Training Option! Training offered by phone and email as well as in person. Handouts provided.
You don't have to live in the Nanaimo area to get help! The sooner you get help, the quicker your dog will respond to retraining. I've been there.

The process:
1. Call (250) 753-5246 or email to set up an appointment.
2. I'll send you a form to fill out that provides me with an understanding of your dog's separation anxiety history and living situation. Your privacy is assured.
3. I'll phone you or visit you to teach you how to successfully deal with it.
4. I'll follow up with a call or visit 2 weeks later to evaluate your dog's progress and fine tune your approach. (or you can contact me sooner if you need to)
5. Extra sessions can be set up if you need my support.
6. You get your life back.

$40 for first two 45 min lessons, $20 per additional 45 min session.

Payment: Pre-payment preferred by cash or cheque but you can use any credit card via PayPal.
